GKD metal fabrics fall into three categories, each with distinct structural characteristics; flexibility one direction, two direction, and rigid.
Flexible, one direction
These fabrics are woven with rods or flat strips in one direction and with wire cables in the other. Because these fabrics can be rolled for shipping, oversize lengths are available. Fewer seams and simple fastening techniques result in comparatively low installation costs.
Flexible, two directions
Woven with cables and flexible rods, these fabrics are the most clothlike. In addition, they share ease of shipping and installation with the flexible, one-direction fabrics.
Rigid
These fabrics are constructed from rigid rods and/or flat strips that have been crimped prior to weaving. Because they must be shipped as flat panels, size restrictions may apply.
Maintenance
GKD manufactures high-quality woven metal fabrics, primarily of AISI Type 316 stainless steel. Each order is delivered clean and free of oils. Maintaining the appearance of the product requires very little effort. In most cases, a simple wipe-down, dusting or mild soap-and-water rinse should be sufficient. In some cases, a pressure wash or cleaning may be required. We offer a truly low-maintenance product, which retains its appeal indefinitely.
Noncorrosive
We use an austenitic stainless steel, most commonly AISI Type 316. Because stainless steel is noncorrosive, no protective coatings or paints should be used. Their use will detract from the intrinsic qualities of the product and will provide no benefit.
Durability
Our metal fabrics are fire-, heat- and impact-resistant, and are suitable for all climates. Stainless steel is a highly durable material. It is a permanent choice in an increasingly disposable worldÑreducing demand on our natural resources and providing long-term value.
Recyclable
Stainless steel is a highly recyclable material in any form: sheet, wire or rod. In fact, remelting existing alloys is easier and less costly than working from raw materials. The stainless steel recycling channels are extremely accessible both in the United States and internationally.
Width
Most GKD metal fabrics can be manufactured in widths of up to 26 feet. This generous size permits the use of our fabrics across large areas without the need for seams or connecting elements.
