In the first of its kind in 70 years, an 80,000 seat arena was built by AS Architecture Studio near Paris, France. Before The Grand Stade, no facility was equipped to accommodate over 45,000 people. Among impressive movable tiers on the new stadium, over 500 lights, and 180 speakers, each tier was adorned with woven metal mesh from GKD.
In Metz, France, a historic city known for its culture, green landscapes, and architecture, a shimmering rectangular-shaped building rises from a sloping landscape. The building designed by KL Architects is known as the Chamber of Crafts. The textile skin made of GKD Lago stainless steel mesh plays a central role in the building’s eligibility for sustainable recognition according to specifications from the French low-energy building label, Batiment Basse Consommation (BBC).
The Chapel of St. Lawrence in Vantaa, Finland is a beautiful example of architecture’s ability to showcase a journey independently of the project’s articulated message. Two young architects who immediately gained international recognition for their intelligible designs started the responsible firm in 2004. Avanto Architects’ design for the chapel focused on the Christian concept of ‘the Path,’ in which the journey to eternity is experienced.
In the latest Mediamesh® project by GKD, the James Branch Cabell Library at Virginia Commonwealth University is transformed with stainless steel wire mesh interwoven with LED lights. The vitrine where the Mediamesh® sits faces out to the rose plaza; one of the most densely populated places on campus. Two panels of Mediamesh® are interconnected to create the visually stunning and interactive screen that is now a popular attraction for students and visitors.
