Located in the heart of the San Fernando Valley, Van Nuys Airport (VNY) ranks as the world’s busiest general aviation airport. Dedicated to noncommercial air travel, VNY averages close to 400,000 takeoffs and landings annually. VNY is one of three airports owned and operated by Los Angeles World Airports, including Los Angeles International and Ontario International.

The FlyAway Bus Terminal provides nonstop bus service between the San Fernando Valley and LAX, and was an important step in helping to alleviate freeway and LAX parking congestion. Today, the FlyAway serves more passengers than ever and is part of a growing network of regional bus terminals offering service to and from LAX. At the FlyAway Bus Terminal, an improvement project completed in early 2005 added additional parking, more convenient passenger drop-off, an enlarged and modernized terminal building, and new landscaping.

Designed by architectural firm DMJM, curtain walls at the bus terminal parking garage utilize GKD’s Lago metal fabric to conceal the inside while allowing pedestrians to engage with their surroundings. Super graphic-sized letter forms were a simple addition fixed to the woven metal fabric. They appear as though they are suspended in flight and add a dynamic shadow effect on the building facade.
