Architects Design Metal Mesh Factory For Luxury Fashion Brand

July 29, 2015

Project Name: Louis Vuitton Shoe Factory/Laboratory

Location: Fiesso d’Artico, Italy

Architect: Jean-Marc Sandolini

GKD Metal Fabric: Omega 1520

In a small town near Venice, skilled craftsmen are born, allowing the town to be referred to the “land of shoes.” Furthering the town of Fiesso d’Artico’s reputation of Italian artisans, architect Jean-Marc Sandrolini designed the Louis Vuitton Factory for the manufacturing of their luxury shoes.

The lavish fashion brand, known for their designer luggage, had such success in the shoe market, that they expanded their manufacturing capabilities. The brand is exemplified in their factory’s design with an equally luxurious cladding material, GKD Metal Fabric Omega 1520.

The building is wrapped in the architectural mesh that provides an aesthetically pleasing exterior, but also solar management capabilities. The exterior mesh has the ability to control the amount of sunlight able to penetrate the interior and also provides weather-resistant properties as well.

Interestingly, Louis Vuitton and GKD share a long history of collaboration. GKD has been used around Europe and Asia in numerous Louis Vuitton flagships and their headquarters in Paris. This long-standing relationship showcases the capabilities and goals of GKD as a long-lasting, prestigious, high quality product.
