Box Set: The GKD Collection

...a simple, elegant solution to the problem of viewing and handling GKD’s stainless steel samples.

A number of years ago ID Magazine, in their annual Design Awards Issue, called attention to GKD’s exemplary packaging system. The packaging was a simple, elegant solution to the problem of viewing and handling GKD’s stainless steel samples.

The packaging is made of utilitarian, recycled, kraft cardboard, which provides an interesting material and textural contrast to the sleek metal samples. The picture frame-like construction allows the specifier to immediately see the product, as well as to handle it and see how the sample is affected by various permutations of light.

Because we know that designers and architects like to see and feel real samples—it’s one of the fun parts of the design process—we’re always happy to send you GKD samples, along with anything else you might need to help familiarize you with our products.

Over the years, we’re happy to note, our product line has grown to over thirty different items. We’ve heard from many of you that you’d like a way to keep your ever expanding library of GKD samples together in an orderly fashion. So we designed a sample box that can house over a dozen samples, perfect for your desk or company library, and we’d be happy to send you as many as you need to help you organize your library of GKD metal fabrics.

For those of you not yet on a first hand basis with our product, we’ve put together a select set containing eight representative products.

Happy looking and feeling!

Some say it’s impolite to blow your own horn, so we won’t. Instead we’ll let these renowned magazines do it for us.

Metal Architecture, September 2006
“Conspicuous by Design, Wire Mesh Manufacturer’s U.S. Facility is Showcase for Product Use Possibilities.”

“A 50-meter long facade of stainless steel wire mesh enshrouds the building and transforms it into a shimmering illustration of the technical and aesthetic qualities of the materials produced within.”

Metal Architecture, September 2006
“Coffee Shop Entry Features Familiar Face”

“Above the entrance of the Juan Valdez Flagship Cafe is a three-story-high screen of GKD Metal Fabric’s Omega 1510 material… An etching technique was used to create the image of Juan Valdez… The subtlety of the graphics allowed for the material to be approved by the local planning board.”

LA Architect, May/June 2006
“Showroom, Mediamesh”

“Mediamesh can be controlled via the Internet to display everything from solid color to graphic messages. When unlit, the fabric assumes the appearance of woven stainless steel.”

Signs of the Times, May 2006
“Clad with Dreams, LED Videoscreens Add New Outdoor-Advertising Punch” by Louis M. Brill

“They knew the solution rested with transparent, LED videoscreens, which could cover a building facade without blocking ambient, exterior light.”

Architectural Record, January 2006
“Local Union 580, Long Island City” by Suzanne Stephens

“At the roof line, Goldner hung a 27-foot-high, stainless-steel-mesh screen and clipped it in place over the second floor. Viewed at an angle, the screen appears opaque; dead-on it subtly discloses the brick wall behind it… The screen also allows the second floor, used as rental space, to receive natural light through existing windows.”
