The Green Phoenix plan has the goal of becoming the most sustainable city in the United States. Exemplifying this, Arizona State University built the 223,000 square foot Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Communication building in downtown Phoenix, providing classrooms, office space and a home for local PBS affiliate KAET Channel 8. GKD–USA’s Lago stainless steel woven metal fabric was chosen to create sunscreens, bringing the sustainable elements of sun control to the building. Sixty-four panels totalling 2400 ft² protect and dress up the westward facing windows of the building. Intense sunlight is tamed to control both the heat and the excess glare.
