Why a façade? Aesthetics spring to mind as a veil façade is used to rejuvenate a structure that has outlived its visual appeal. Or to enhance the aesthetics of new construction. But effective use of – and protection against – the elements is a key motivation for outfitting a building with a metal fabric façade. Ventilation and solar management for climate control and “daylighting” applications augment building comfort and operational costs.

Whether new construction or retrofit, GKD’s building façade planning always begins with determining the appropriate “connection” between the building’s internal and external environments, and how the two interrelate. The GKD approach involves matching the product’s physical characteristics for strength, corrosion-resistance and transparency with appropriate hardware attachments. Careful consideration of climate, sun direction and potential airborne contaminants also play a key role.
