Visionary Architect Dominique Perrault, Discoverer of Metal Mesh for A&D Applications, Bestowed Noble Honor in France

February 1, 2017

At a special ceremony held in Paris, Dominique Perrault took his place among the eight lifetime members of the Académie des Beaux-Arts. The visionary architect and city planner was presented with an honorary sword during the event, one of the honorable office’s insignias. Historically crafted by a goldsmith, he requested that his sword be made of stainless steel and produced by longtime partner GKD. Perrault, who is credited with discovering metal mesh for A&D applications, has used the innovative material as a signature element in his buildings for more than 20 years.

A Storied Career
Perrault’s contributions to French architecture and design are as legendary as they are innovative. He has created several of the most symbolic buildings in Europe, including the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, the Grand Théâtre d’Albi, the towers known as the City Lights in Pont de Sèvres, as well as the Pavillon Dufour in Versailles.
