We consider ourselves the innovator of the metal fabric category. Which isn’t just chest-beating – it’s actually true. In 1992, French architect Dominique Perrault and GKD collaborated on the first project using metal fabric in an architectural application – the National Library of France. Following this successful project, innovation paved the way for visionary uses of GKD products.

New applications naturally brought a new set of technical challenges, which were overcome through the collaborative effort of architect and manufacturer. Striving for new capabilities, Perrault and GKD had led the way for how modern architects use metal fabrics in the built environment.

We have consistently built on our pioneering leadership role through ongoing product development and a commitment to educating the architecture community.
