Frauenrath BauConcept GmbH and architects from SOP had a mission that was two-fold. They needed to address the high functional demands of the space while treating it like flagship project in terms of design. VCU Library Gets Makeover With New GKD Mediamesh Display

In the latest Mediamesh® project by GKD, the James Branch Cabell Library at Virginia Commonwealth University is transformed with stainless steel wire mesh interwoven with LED lights. The vitrine where the Mediamesh® sits faces out to the rose plaza; one of the most densely populated places on campus. Two panels of Mediamesh® are interconnected to create the visually stunning and interactive screen that is now a popular attraction for students and visitors.

The Modern Wing at the Art Institute of Chicago stands amongst Chicago’s landmark buildings that include Aqua and the Chicago Theater. Open and airy and yet, solid and robust, the famous architectural monuments share characteristics that hold up to the extreme weather of the windy city. The Modern Wing by the architects, Renzo Piano, boasts a steel and glass facade that permits light throughout the 264,000 square foot addition; making the art institute one of the largest museums in the US.
